Contest

The second Reboot Contest came and went, and we have finally finished judging! Without further ado, here are the results...

It was not an easy judge; we had a lot of amazing entries, and a lot of really high scores! Everyone did a great job, and we really appreciate you all for taking the time to participate! ♥!

If you didn’t place, you’re free to satisfy your curiosity by sending the group a Note asking for your score results. (Do not send us Notes about this to our personal accounts, we won’t reply unless it’s to the group).

Now, without further ado…

THIRD PLACE

We have a tie for third place! Our two winners are…

Ashflura!

“THE BACKGROUND, THE LIGHTING, JUST THIS PICTURE IN GENERAL I LOVE! It has its issues, though, more so it being the wrong time of day, outfits, gestures, more so on Reyez's part and whatnot, but I just really love the atmosphere and overall effort of this picture. Detail was certainly paid attention to and I...just.........can't get over that background *farts uncontrollably* Ugh, I just love it. To death. I don't even know what else to say.”

“Incorrect outfits not-withstanding, there is nothing about this image I don’t like. From the boys and how they all face away from the viewer, adding a distinct finality to the piece, to the beautiful and intricate trees and other houses in the background. This is a really, really lovely entry. I’m also really pleased to see Skollmon there and not forgotten. My only issue is with the misinterpretation of Reyez’s reaction to this… moment.”

“I’m not quite sure what they meant with Reyez’s gesture, he is indeed throwing his hands into the air (and then…scrolling away, how did I miss that typo xD). In any case, this is an absolutely beautiful scene and the background is aaaamazing! I love that you included the tops of the other houses over that fence, along with those stunning trees. The way the characters are all facing away but still reacting to each other is really nice, and reminiscent of the style of the CD covers, very nice tie-in!”

AND

CourageAngel!

“I was quite blown away by her characterization in this particular scene as it was pretty much perfect. The use of “lights” where very well done and very metaphoric, something very appreciated! Also seeing Rose go through an internal struggle was also a nice touch. Very nice.”

“YAY! Internal turmoil! My favorite kind of turmoil! It’s great to see someone tackling the inner workings of Rose as she enters her stupor after the fight in episode 28. Though she’s totally unresponsive physically, she’s still thinking and I’m really happy with the things this writer has her thinking. It’s pretty accurate to how she’s feeling, and the things she brings up later in episode 29 with Hunter. All the important things in her life, drifting away uncontrollably. Very much enjoyed reading this.”

“This was really lovely! I particularly liked how Rose’s siblings and Digimon were compared to lights (light is a recurring theme in Reboot!). I was glad that you didn’t make Rose actually cry, it’s more true to her character, now, to be paralyzed with a numbing emotion than to let it spill out in tears. Overall, great entry, just a few grammar/punctuation bits I stumbled over.”

SECOND PLACE

FlyKiwiFly

“I really love the old film effect, it does really great with this scene. I love the interaction between both Rose and Hunter and how the scene plays itself out without the use of subtitles. The concept and execution is both refreshing and original in terms of contest entries and I must say it's one of the most enjoyable I’ve seen so far.”

“Really nice entry, with a fantastic old silent movie feel running throughout. I love the focus mainly on expression rather than words, they add a lot more to the image than text would have. And the only text that is there, is important. Not just filler. I like how the artist has included Yinmon too, though she’s only mentioned in this particular scene briefly, it’s quite an important scene showing how Rose already relies on her Digimon. The interaction between Hunter and Rose is great, and they’d both very much in character. My only complaint is that Hunter and Rose look a little too old, than the scene suggests. But that’s my only issue.”

“I love the old film concept! It works so nicely with a flashback! Isolating the important dialog in its own frame really helps to emphasize its impact. Their expressions describe what they’re going through very nicely, without the need for any more text. It’s a very refreshing take from the typical group picture, and a pleasure to scroll down and look at. Overall, a wonderful (and super adorable!) piece!”

FIRST PLACE

Setsuna-Yena

“I’m actually blown away by this entry. Setsuna put everything into this piece and included every tamer and digimon mentioned in that episode. Considering I've been avoiding doing a group shot with all the ultimates myself I must say this deserves a standing ovation! I love everything from the interactions to her backgrounds and depicting the entire scene that lead up to Oisinmon's appearance. Love it!”

“This just astounded me when I first saw it, and I keep going back at looking at it to catch more details that I’ve missed before. Setsuna deserves some kind of medal just for attempting this. She’s done the almost impossible and conveyed a very dramatic and intense scene without words, or text. Just by expression, and it’s easy to follow what is going on. I have nothing but admiration for her ability to include not only most of the human characters, but also every ultimate and an extra in the form of Satyressmon. Not even we’ve attempted something like this. The coloring is bright and really attractive, and I love how she’s given each character her best shot. Regardless of completion on the piece, it is a complete piece, it tells a story and it tells it exceptionally well.”

“BLOWN AWAY, not gonna lie! Even before she finished the last frames I was very impressed. Out of fairness the completion of the last few frames shouldn’t count since they were after the deadline, but this was going to get full completion marks from me regardless. Every one of the frames is beautiful and detailed enough to be considered an individual entry on its own, so holding a few frames against her doesn’t seem fair to me. The amount of time she put into this is jaw-dropping, every single character is included at least once, and the emotions are all very well represented. I could not be more thrilled about this entry, Setsuna really did a spectacular job!”

Thank you all again, so, so much for your entries! We hope everyone agrees with our final decisions~ Any bad sportsmanship towards us or the other participants will count against you if you choose to enter any of our future contests. We did our best to judge the entries fairly, and individually (no entry was compared to any other, they all received their own personal numerical score). And like we said, there were so many great entries, we wish we could have awarded more winners.

Cheers~! ♥

Man... I really need to learn to draw... I'd so enter this kind of contest if I had even a bit of talent. But I totally suck at it.

I see it now. I must have misinterpreted it reading too quick. Now I'm feeling a little more fired up about it. Let's see if I can get inspired and write up a storm now!

As much as I would love to enter this contest, I cant draw worth a crap, so I know there is no way I would be able to join in. Although, I can write. Where can I find the OST covers?

Posted by CJ on Sunday, 12.11.11 @ 21:11pm

The OST covers can be seen on the individual CD pages, found under the "Soundtracks" drop-down in the menu.
